Sophomore first baseman Beau Darak is a large reason the Owls won the LEC title this season. He led the team with 11 home runs and his 46 RBIs were second most for KSC.

With two victories over Rhode Island College on May 4, the Keene State College baseball team made history. For the first time since the team joined the Little East Conference, KSC won the regular season division title outright.

"It's big but this isn't our ultimate goal right now," said baseball coach Ken Howe. "To host the tournament, that was one of our goals for the year."

The Owls were able to win the LEC title behind a strong offense that produced all season long.

"I think the biggest difference is this year everybody is hitting very well," said Howe. "They are taking great approaches to the plate."

Sophomore first basemen Beau Darak and senior right fielder/closer Greg Ford are the clear leaders of the offense.

Darak leads the Owls in home runs (11) and was second on the team in RBIs (46).

"Beau struggled out of the gate but he is turning it around," said Howe. "Obviously we would rather have it that way than the other way around."

Ford was second on the team in home runs (10) and led the team in RBIs (47), while recording six saves and posting a 3.29 ERA out of the bullpen.

"Ford's been a great closer and a great hitter and a great teammate," said Howe.

While the offense has been lights out, KSC has received great starting pitching from junior Aaron Laplante (5-0, 2.75 ERA), and senior Jamie Morin (4-0, 3.17 ERA).

By winning the division, the LEC Tournament will be played at the Owl Athletic Complex.

"Right now everyone is 0-0. We are starting the season over again," said Howe. "We just happen to be at home, that's all."
